GPS disruptions cause problems for Finnish agricultural and forestry sectors

An increasing number of GPS service denial incidents have been reported by farmers and forestry professionals in Finland since the start of 2024. The government strongly encourages the adoption of modern agricultural technologies such as precision farming, which relies on GNSS positioning to increase productivity. However, intentional interference is present near the borders of Finland with Russia, causing service unavailability when jamming attacks are performed. This has left areas of farms uncultivated and unfarmable, potentially disrupting the food supply chain. Although countermeasures are being implemented through the integration of GNSS augmentation systems in the agricultural sector, the disruptions caused by signal interference are already significantly impacting operational efficiency and productivity.
