Monday 17\/03\/2025: According to the Dutch broadcast network NOS, Netherlands along with Estonia, Finland, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine filed a complaint to International Telecommunication Union (ITU)<\/a> which is a specialized agency of United Nations, regarding delibarate Interference in European Satellite communications conducted by Russian Federation near the Baltic states since February 2022. The complaint mentions the Satellite Communications in a broader sense including TV broadcast sabotages <\/a>. Part of the source article also mentions the impact in Satellite Navigation with increasing number of recorded incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Human Environment and Transport Directorate (ITL)<\/a> the number of reports of GNSS Tampering was increased dramatically from 163 in 2023 to 1318 in 2024, which results to significant service disruptions specifically in Aviation were more than 30.000 flights have experienced disruption on GNSS Signal reception since September 2024 according to the filed document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This filed complaint serves as a first counter-act by the and not yet affected states, by making known to the UN member states and show unity against cyber attacks of this nature. Additionally 17 EU member stater and the UK support the complaint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It needs to be noted that this is not the first time such complains have reached the UN body. In July 1st 2024, ITU reviewed a similar complaint focused on GNSS Signal disruption and urged for an immediate termination of similar actions by Russian Federation. The filed complaint though was signed by fewer states namely Ukraine, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Luxemburg which were significantly increased in the newer case showing the raising concerns around this matter.
